Daniel Gaustad was born in Grafton, North Dakota on November 27, 1966. He was admitted to bar in 1994 in Montana and the U.S. District Court, District of Montana. In 1995 he was admitted to the bar in North Dakota and has also been admitted to the U.S. District Court, District of North Dakota and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Gaustad received his B.A., magna cum laude from the University of North Dakota in 1989 and his J.D., with distinction, in 1994. He was a member of Order of the Coif.

He is a member of the State Bar of North Dakota. Additionally he serves as an adjunct professor of law at the University of North Dakota School of law, teaching a Modern Real Estate course.
